PICKLEX® 20 - Instructions for Hot Rolled Steel Welding
Welding through Mill Scale for Hot Rolled Steel
Note: The mill scale does not have to be removed
- Just spray or brush Picklex® 20 on the mill scale (on the welding area without removing the mill scale).
NOTE: Put enough on the surface to soak into the mill scale completely down to the metal surface so that it can convert the mill scale to a conversion coating. Apply on a larger area around the welding area.
- Wait about a minute then wipe off to remove the excess from the surface.
Heat dry by a heat gun and perform Welding
Remove the weld scale by a wire-brush and spray the welding area with Picklex® 20 to provide rust protection and also provide much better bonding with the top coating.
Performance/Benefits of Picklex® 20:
- Picklex® 20 completely converts the mill scale to a conversion coating through which welding can be performed after complete drying. This eliminates removal of the mill scale.
- Weld strength is higher than the AWS method.
- Does not cause hydrogen embrittlement. So the chances of weld failure is almost zero
- Acts as an anti-spatter
- After welding and removal of the weld scale, spraying Picklex® 20 on the welding area provides a long term indoor rust protection before top coating
- Provides much better adhesion with the top coating
- Saves a lot of labor, time & cost
